I am happy to see Knownhost has implemented my suggestion. Despite being subscribed to the WHMCS announcement forum (so I knew all about the recent DB compromise) I got an email from Knownhost about a patch issued today before I heard about it from WHMCS. Nice job.

Been getting a lot of emails from my server about large number of failed login attempts from china. I've been blacklisting /16 blocks as they come in as none of my sites need/expect legitimate traffic from china. But I'm sure china has quite a few IP blocks. Is there a better way?

After this server was rebooted on the 7th, things got better. A few days after, things settled down and now the actual cpanel backup consistently only takes about 10 minutes. And another 22 minutes to sync to S3. Nothing changed on my end, so whatever you guys did/didn't do...thanks!
